Cardiolates Class

Why come

The Cardiolates workout uses the latest Spin bikes alongside our trademark Reformer beds to provide a perfect combination of body-sculpting, weight-loss and cardiovascular endurance benefits.

Like all TenPilates’ classes, it’s a results driven, full-body workout; designed for people who want to see as well as feel the benefits. Fast.

In addition, the combination of Reformers and stationary spin bikes ensures a low-impact workout, minimising jarring and risk of injury to the joints.

What to expect

Cardiolates classes are suitable for intermediate or advanced level clients only.

The class is split into two roughly equal parts.

The warm-up and first half of the class will take place on the bikes, where we’ll focus on working the lower body and raising the heart rate, building cardiovascular endurance and helping promote weight loss.

To maximize the efficiency of the exercise, it’s an Interval Training session, so you’ll burn more calories and exercise both skeletal and cardiac muscles at a higher intensity than you would if you worked at a consistent even pace.

The second half is Reformer-based, focusing on the core, the upper body, flexibility and posture. Exercises will be highly functional (i.e. working the core muscles in combination with additional muscle groups) to increase the effort and control required, improving strength, muscle tone and muscle endurance, and burning calories faster.

It’s an unapologetically challenging workout, with fast changeovers, more repetitions and absolutely no let-up.

We encourage clients to wear a heart monitor for this class – it’s not essential, but it will help you get more from the session if you do, as it allows you to ensure you’re working at the most effective heart rate for maximum calorie burning.

Heart monitors

If you don’t have a heart monitors, but would like one, we recommend either the Polar FS2 or the Polar FT7M (www.polarelectro.co.uk for more details).

Both are available at reception, at £46 and £99 respectively. They can also be purchased through our online booking and payments system, and will be waiting for you when you arrive for your next Cardiolates class.

Results and benefits

Spinning is one of the best forms of cardiovascular exercises, increasing heart and lung capacity and strength. In addition, the way the class is structured means that even you’ll get more out of the workout as the heart rate remains raised during the Reformer section.

You’ll burn more calories, and build greater cardiovascular capability and endurance than in a standard Dynamic Pilates class. At the same time, you’ll do more to build core strength, improve flexibility and posture, and build long, lean muscles than you would in a typical aerobic workout.

So not only is it an effective way to shed some unwanted pounds, but you should also expect to see significant improvement in stamina, strength, flexibility and muscle tone.
