Unique to TenPilates, Dynamic Mat Classes bring the intensity, full-body workout and heart/lung conditioning of the innovative, results driven TenPilates technique to Mat Pilates.
As with our reformer classes, the Dynamic Mat workout can be tailored to suit individual levels of fitness, capability and experience, so it’s equally suited to beginners or experienced Dynamic Pilates practitioners looking to add some extra variety into their workout.
It’s is a great place to start if you’re new to Dynamic Pilates – or to any kind of Pilates. And for anyone used to traditional mat-based Pilates, it makes a natural introduction to the TenPilates technique.
It’s also ideal for anyone who’d prefer some initial sessions focusing on their technique and learning to activate their core muscles effectively, before moving on to the Reformer classes.
Because it's floor-based, with only your own body weight for resistance, it’s particularly suitable for anyone with back problems, poor balance or low muscular strength - perhaps after illness or injury.
You're going to get hot during the class, so you'll need to wear something that's comfortable and will allow you to move freely (most people wear stretch pants or shorts and a t-shirt or sports top). You don't need shoes - you'll train either in socks or bare feet, whichever you prefer. Water and towels are provided.
If it’s your first class, you should make sure you arrive at least 10 minutes early. This is to allow you enough time to complete our registration form and meet the trainer. As this is for your safety, please be aware that if you have not done this before the class starts, you may not be able to train.
During the class, you’ll be introduced to the techniques and exercises that underpin the Dynamic Mat Pilates programme. The focus is on correct activation of the core muscles, and improving your general strength, flexibility and posture.
As the name suggests, Dynamic Mat Pilates utilises the TenPilates dynamic system of training, with a continual flow of movement from one technique to the next, so you’ll fit more exercises – and more exercise – into the session.
You’ll be working more dynamically and with greater intensity than you’d expect to find in a traditional Mat Pilates session. So not only does it offer heart/lung conditioning as well as muscular and postural benefits, but you should expect to feel and see results faster.
If you’re a beginner, or recovering from injury, you’ll also start building up your core strength and flexibility, so that as you progress, you’ll find the experience easier and more enjoyable, and the workout more effective.
