Trainers' biogs

As you'd expect, we're picky about the people we hire.

We take a lot of time and trouble finding people with the right mix of skills, experience, attitude and personality. But no matter what experience or qualifications they may have, before we'll let any of our would-be Trainers train you, we train them first. Thoroughly.

Each of our Trainers has spent over 180 hours in the TenPilates Training Academy, mastering our Dynamic Pilates programme under the eagle eye of Master Trainer and TenPilates co-funder, David Higgins.

So whoever you train with, and whatever your level or goals, you can be sure that your sessions will be genuinely effective, enjoyable and empowering.

David Higgins – Master Trainer and Co-Founder of TenPilates

Originally from Melbourne, David has a degree in Exercise, Physiology and Sports. Before coming to the UK, he was both a professional Aussie Rules player and a sports scientist for the Australian Institute of Sport. He studied Reformer Pilates in Beverley Hills with LA Pilates guru Sebastian LaGree.

David moved to London in 2004, quickly earning a reputation as a personal Trainer specialising in exercise rehabilitation. In 2007 he co-founded TenPilates.

Whilst his responsibilities include management of the Training department and running the TenPilates Training Academy, David also remains a hands-on Trainer. As a Master Trainer, he runs Classes and Personal Training sessions at both our Notting Hill and Chiswick Studios, with a client list that includes a number of leading actors, models and celebrities (No point asking who; he's far too discreet.)

Luke Meessmann – Master Trainer

Originally from New South Wales, Australia, Luke graduated from the acclaimed university of Wollongong with a degree in Exercise Science and Graduate Diploma in Exercise Rehabilitation.

As manager of TenPilates Chiswick, Luke combines an impressive range of sporting, training and therapeutic skills. In addition to playing semi-professional football, Luke has worked in musculoskeletal rehabilitation, specialising in treating lower back pain and has previously managed a GP-referred exercise intervention program for people with diabetes. He has also worked in some of London's leading hospitals as a cardiac physiologist.

Luke manages TenPilates' Chiswick Studio, where you'll find that, with his Master Trainer's expertise, motivational skills and personal charm, he's ably qualified to help you achieve your goals.

Luke spends what little free time he has supporting Chelsea (he's an avid fan) and travelling.

Neil Dimmock – Trainer

After almost 15 years as a Personal Trainer and Manager at some of London's top gyms, including the Next Generation and David Lloyd clubs, Neil is delighted to be back doing what he enjoys – working with clients rather than pushing paper.

Neil trained at the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and is not only a Certified Personal Trainer but also a specialist in Exercise Flexibility - extremely effective in a variety of areas from rehabilitation through to the training of performance athletes.

In addition to his wealth of experience, Neil brings with him a genuine love of sport and exercise. Coming from a football background he has a real team approach and a highly competitive spirit; so you'll find that ensuring you achieve your goals is as important to him as it is to you.

Hara Markos – Trainer

High energy levels, an aptitude for teaching classes and a keen and technical eye for postural detail makes training with Hara a challenging but always enjoyable experience

Hara possesses a strong background in Personal Training and fitness. She is a graduate of both the Pilates Institute and the University of North London – she holds a BSc Honours in Sports Science and a Dip HE in Sports Science and Fitness Evaluation. She also holds Diplomas in Sports Massage Therapy.

Hara's not someone who likes to sit still for too long, so when she's not in the studio she'll be out and about. Travelling, hiking and watersports are amongst her favourite ways to burn off some of that energy.

Sean Bonte

Having worked in the fitness industry for the past 12 years, managing various health clubs from Holmes Place to Esporta and David Lloyd, Sean brings with him a wealth of experience in exercise and training techniques.

In addition to his degree in Sports Science, Sean also trained at the National Academy of Sports Medicine, specialising in postural correction and the rehabilitation of cardiac patients. His approach to training has always been based on the idea that you have to enjoy and have fun in what you do, whilst always maintaining a clear focus on the final goal.

When he is not helping you achieve your goals, Sean can often be found cheering on his beloved Arsenal or snowboarding down the side of a mountain somewhere in Europe.

Kadi-Ann Thomas

Although Kadi-Ann has been teaching Pilates for a little over 18 months, don't mistake that fresh, youthful face for inexperience.

She has a degree in Sports Science and Exercise & Fitness, and in addition to her depth of technical and practical knowledge, she also brings valuable personal experience to TenPilates.

As a full-time elite sprinter, competing at international level, Kadi-Ann is ideally placed to demonstrate and communicate the benefits of good technique, hard work and the importance of strong motivation and a positive mental outlook.

Rachel Spain

After 20 years training and working as a professional dancer, Rachel settled in London and found the fitness industry. Whilst working as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor she gained a place on the renowned Pilates Foundation Teacher Training course.

As a full time Pilates teacher, Rachel has experience in rehabilitation, pre and post natal, core strengthening and postural improvements and awareness. Her knowledge enables her to work with a wide spectrum of clients from back pain sufferers to elite athletes.

Unsurprisingly, given her background, Rachel is hot on technique, focus and precision, so expect her sessions to be hard work but extremely rewarding.

Maritha Archer

For Maritha, fitness is a way of life rather than a job; her passion in life is to help others achieve whatever goals they set themselves, no matter how challenging.

A highly skilled fitness professional, Maritha combines formal knowledge - courtesy of a Sports Science degree from South Africa's well-respected Stellenbosch University and a number of rehabilitation courses - with more than 10 years teaching, coaching and training experience.

She brings an infectious enthusiasm to every class she teaches, with an approach to training that's highly energised and fast paced, but always supportive and tailored to the needs of the individual.
